Post a listing on Facebook

For landlords, property managers · Last updated

Who this is for

Landlords and property managers who post rentals on Facebook Marketplace or on their own Facebook Page. Any member of your account can use it.

Before you start

  • Publish the listing first. See List a unit for rent.
  • Facebook doesn't let software post rentals for you, so eSamaHomes never posts to Facebook and never reads anything from it. You post it yourself from your own Facebook account; eSamaHomes gets the text and photos ready.

Steps

  1. Open the listing. Scroll to Post on Facebook and pick the Marketplace or Your Page tab.
  2. Marketplace: on Facebook, go to Marketplace → Create new listing → Homes for sale or rent. In eSamaHomes, click Copy next to Title, Description and each fact, and paste each one into Facebook's form. The facts are listed in the order Facebook asks for them.
  3. Your Page: click Copy next to Post text and paste it into a new post on your Page.
  4. Click Download photos to get a zip of the photos in cover order (01.jpg, 02.jpg and so on), and add them to the Facebook post.
  5. Post it on Facebook, then click I posted it in eSamaHomes.
  6. Optional: paste the post's address into Link to your post and click Save. View on Facebook then opens it.
  7. When you take the post down on Facebook, click I removed it.

Example

Lena Park's listing for 40 Cedar Street, Unit 3 is published. On the Marketplace tab the title reads "2 bd 1 ba apartment for rent · Palm Bay". The description is her own text, then a list of facts (Rent: $1,450/month, Security deposit: $1,450, Available: Now) and an "Apply online" link.

She posts it on Marketplace and clicks I posted it; the card shows "Posted on Facebook" with today's date. Two weeks later, Omar Velez applies from the link in her post, and his application shows "Came from: Facebook Marketplace".

What happens next

  • The text has no phone number and no email. Renters reach you through Facebook, or through the "Apply online" link, which opens the listing's public page.
  • The link is tagged, so leads and applications that arrive through it show Came from "Facebook Marketplace" or "Facebook Page". The listing's Where renters came from card counts leads and applications per site.
  • "Came from" is a hint, not proof. It is read from the link the renter used, and anyone can add a tag to a link. Leads and applications from before October 9, 2026 show "Not recorded".
  • When the listing comes down (rented, unpublished or deleted) while a post is still open, every account owner gets a notice and an email: "Remove your Facebook Marketplace post". A yellow banner on the listing stays until someone clicks I removed it.
  • On the Listings screen, a listing with an open post shows On Facebook.

If something looks wrong

  • "Publish first, then post it on Facebook." The kit is only for a published listing.
  • "Save first: the text below is the saved listing." You have unsaved changes. Click Save so the Facebook text matches.
  • "Your listing hides the address. On Facebook, choose to keep it private." The kit gives Facebook the full address, because Facebook's form asks for it. Choose to keep it private there.
  • "Paste the link to your post on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/…)." Only a link to a facebook.com, fb.com or fb.me page that starts with https:// is accepted.
  • "This post was already removed." A post marked as removed can't be edited. Click I posted it again if you post it again.
  • Boosting a Page post? Facebook treats it as a housing ad. Choose the Housing category when it asks.
