Sign your lease online

Who this is for
Tenants whose landlord or property manager sent their lease for signing online. You sign from an email, not inside the tenant portal.
Before you start
- Use the email address your landlord has for you. Each signer needs their own address; tell your landlord if theirs is wrong.
- You need a phone, tablet or computer with a current browser, and a way to open and save a PDF.
- Read the Consent to Electronic Signatures and Records. You don't have to sign online: you can ask your landlord to sign on paper instead.
Steps
- Wait for your turn. The landlord side signs first, then each tenant, the primary tenant first. You get an email when it's your turn.
- Open the email and follow its link to the lease.
- Read the consent and click I Agree to sign online.
- Enter the one-time code sent to your email.
- Read the lease, then sign where it asks.
Example
Ana Ruiz and Ben Cole are renting 12 Palm Lane, Unit 2. Their property manager, Rosa Diaz, sends the lease for signing.
- Rosa signs first. Ana, the primary tenant, gets her email next, agrees, enters her code and signs.
- Ben gets his email after Ana signs, and signs the same way.
- When Ben signs, everyone has signed. Each of them gets the signed PDF by email.
What happens next
- When the last person signs, every signer is emailed the signed lease as a PDF.
- The signed lease is also kept in the tenant portal: open My Lease, and it is under Documents as Signed lease. Click Download to save it.
- If the lease was a new one, it starts then, and your first rent is billed. See Pay your rent from your bank account.
- Your landlord may send a lease to sign again after a change. The new signed copy is kept beside the old one.
If something looks wrong
- You didn't get an email. It may not be your turn yet, or it may be in your spam folder. Ask your landlord to check your email address or send a reminder.
- The code didn't arrive. Check your spam folder. If it still isn't there, ask your landlord.
- The signing was canceled. The lease was changed after it was sent, so nobody signs an old version. Your landlord will send it again.
- Something in the lease is wrong. Don't sign. You can decline on the signing page, then talk to your landlord, who fixes the lease and sends it again.
- You want a paper lease. Ask your landlord. There is no charge from eSamaHomes for paper.
